online success secretsEveryone in the online home business world is always searching that elusive secret strategy to finally make it big. They just know it’s out there, and as soon as they find the right business, right tool, right relationship… they will finally have success in a home business.

The More Training You Take, The More Money You Make, Right?

Don’t mis-understand the sarcasm in this statement, everyone needs to become a student of the business if they want lasting results online. You do want to invest in training. However, training in itself is not a strategy, although it looks that way for many people.

Over the last 12 months I’ve gained a ton of knowledge on many different marketing strategies. I’ve seen some nice successes as well. I’ve built a decent size list, made hundreds of sales of various products giving a steady 4-figure income over the last several months.

But, I’ve known for a while that there is something holding me back. And this latest overhaul by Google is not the culprit. In fact, it made me realize what really matters in this business.

Here are the 3 most critical factors in success in online marketing and home business:

1. Mental Game

In basketball you hear talk about how “he got game” or “she got game”.  Usually we think of physical skills when think of having game. However, in business it’s your view of the world and everything that happens to you in it, that determines whether you got game.

Mental toughness is just something people talk about, unless they have gone through set backs and come out stronger on the other side. In the last few weeks, my online traffic, and thousands of other online marketers’ traffic, was wiped out with a single switch by Google.

Many folks went pretty ballistic on the forums, calling for Google’s head on a platter… saying things like how can Google just take someone’s livelihood away, and a family’s means of surviving?

Initially I was upset as well. But now, I’m actually thankful to Google. You see, this latest slap, known as the google penguin, made me experience something that I already knew.

That setbacks are part of business, and the only relevant thing about them, is how you react. You can let something like losing 90% of your web traffic get you down, and knock you out of the game… or you can use it as fuel. Fuel to take your game to the next level.

That’s all determined by your beliefs, and whether you realize just how powerful you are. All the “rockstars” you see online have a mental toughness. They think of their mind as their true asset. And I understand this now more than ever, because I feel stronger and more optimistic about meeting my goals than ever before. It’s going to require a couple more things though, which are my next two secrets for success.

2. Focus

This is a tough lesson just about everyone goes through. But for me, it’s worse because I’m already ADD. My mind tends to jump from thing to thing all the time. I feel like a super computer running about 50 simultaneous processes. Many of you can relate.

Again, it’s one thing to know. It’ s another to do. But what I’ve found is that after a certain point you just become numb. All the distractions…. the 3 product launches a day… the new strategies, 500 emails, Facebook posts, tweets… kids…wives… taxes…. AHHH!

Here’s the Key: Focus every moment, on the present. What are you doing right now, or can you do?

Even though it’s against my nature, I’ve had to force myself to be a linear thinker lately… especially when it comes to getting things done.

And you must pick one product or business to focus on, seriously. I’m an advocate of multiple streams of income, but getting involved in multiple things that are not closely related or working together… is a recipe for failure. This is simply physics. Professional athletes get so good… because of focus. Natural talent is nice…. but many never develop their talents because they have no focus. People are spread too thin these days.

Find a way to channel your energy into a singular pursuit. There are many methods for doing this. Check out books on the topic, it will be a better investment than any new marketing course. I’m no master at this yet, but I just keep trying to get better… and success seems to come in relation to how focused I am.

So the Google Penguin has “forced” me to become more focused. My thinking on a daily bases has changed. It’s just about what is the next ONE thing I need to go to move forward. When that’s done, I move to the next thing.

3. Advertise

What? How is it that “advertise” fits in with this set of two relatively abstract success concepts? Well, because this article based on my experience of what the critical differences are for successful online marketers. And I realized recently, undeniably, that the highest earning home business owners and online marketers…. that can actually sustain their results…. and live a lifestyle that actually justifies that work… Do one thing consistently: They Advertise.

SEO is Nice, But Advertising is Forever

I still like SEO, and will always do it. If you have time, nothing is cheaper than SEO. However, I believe it’s been said before that time is money. You either spend time doing SEO, or money doing advertising. The difference is that advertising is a constant, there are principles in copywriting that never change. Just the medium changes.

The challenge for most people is getting the mental game, and focus to make advertising a priority. That’s what the last 12 months has done for me.  I have a specific plan to incorporate advertising as a priority.

A real life experience clearly showed me that SEO is actually a bigger risk than Advertising because you are at the mercy of an always changing game with no set principles, where months and even years of work can go down the drain in an instant.

Advertising principles never change. Target the right customer, write good copy, and get your message in front of them consistently over time.

But How Do You Get An Advertising Budget?

Make it a priority. I never did until recently because I needed to go through some more pain apparently. SEO was supposed to fund the ad budget and it was working but I was spending a good chunk of that budget on various SEO tools. Then, at the whim of a third party, it all went away.

Advertising will not go away. It actually stays very much the same. So you can get good at it, and stay good at it, and never have to worry about years of work going down the drain.

I’m not turning my back on SEO, oh quite contrary, I’ve become very serious and focused on how it’s done going forward. But my advice to gain more control over the success of your business is…

Get tough mentally, focus your efforts, and for crying out loud do some advertising!

Turn the key, put it in drive, and hit the gas. Repeat. Everyday. It will work. :)

Hmmm…. Really? Well how is it then, that it’s working for the hundreds or even thousands of other people using the same [insert name of tool, system, strategy, or company here]?

I just “love” hearing this response when talking with people about tools or programs I use to generate traffic and income in the internet. I’ve even caught myself using this phrase occasionally, even though I really know that it’s typically not the system’s fault.

Examples of “It Didn’t Work” Syndrome

Recently there has been a lot of buzz around a new blogging network and online business Empower Network Earningstraining program called Empower Network. The amount of commissions being earned with this system is record breaking. I think they are over $5 million in commissions paid out in their first 5 months. The founder, David Wood just posted a stat yesterday of the top 17 earners in March alone, Check it out————————>

Yet the other day I was talking with one of my team members, who signed up for Empower Network a month ago. I had mentioned the power of Empower Network in generating cashflow for his business. His response you likely guessed…

“I tried that, it doesn’t work”.

Really. I felt like saying “you know, Bob (we’ll just call him Bob), I recently bought a Corvette because they told me it goes really fast. But I got in, and started it… and all it did was sit there. It doesn’t work.”

Of course Bob’s next response would hopefully be, “well, did you put it in drive, and then hit the gas?”  And then my only choice would be to say… “Oh… well I didn’t realize I actually had to drive it for it to work, sounds a lot like Empower Network. Like you thought maybe if you just signed up…  made a few posts, send a few emails…  You would all of a sudden get a windfall of leads and income.”

This analogy is a simplification, but it holds true at the foundation of what it takes for success with any tool or system out there.

Replace “IT” with “YOU”

In most cases, what isn’t working is you. If that sounds harsh, well perhaps it is. But it would be a disservice to let people go on thinking the problem lies somewhere outside themselves.

The people that are having success with Empower Network are people who have invested in themselves, made it a priority and have taken all out massive action. They don’t just blog, they promote their blog. They don’t just try one strategy and quit, if it’s not working they either get better at it or try a new strategy.

Learn from the people that are having success… do what they are doing. This applies to any tool, system or business opportunity.

I’ve tried things and not had success, but I always own my results. Rarely is a system issue. At some level I can always point back to myself as the cause. I either didn’t follow the training well enough, or it wasn’t high enough priority for me… or I just decided it wasn’t the right strategy for me.

Success Will Come When You Own It

My message for anyone who catches themselves saying “It didn’t work”, is that you need to own your success. There is no IT, there’s only YOU. You didn’t work. It’s not some flaw with you personally, it’s a flaw with your mindset. Instead saying something doesn’t work, say “How can I make this work”. Or simply decide that you want to commit to another method… but don’t just repeat the same pattern, or you’ll find nothing works for you.

The only difference between the people stuff works for, and people that nothing works for… is their attitude and belief system.

And IF you have a genuine interest in changing your attitude and belief system, then you will not make a better investment than this Mind Re-training right here. Attraction Marketing Defined, Once and For All

So What is Attraction Marketing? The concept of attraction marketing is now widely accepted as a systematic approach to deliver valuable content to a targeted audience for the purpose of building trust and credibility with the audience who in turn become loyal customers or business partners. The term attraction marketing was made popular by the network marketing industry. The main platform of delivery is the Internet, although it is not the only platform.

The exact definition Attraction Marketing varies depending on the source. The purpose of my definition here is not to sell you on what I think attraction marketing is or what products and strategies you should use to execute it, but rather to provide an unadulterated understanding of the principle, without a sales agenda. The reason I think this is important is because when doing research on attraction marketing, I could find but one source that provided what seemed to be a neutral, academic definition, which was on Wikipedia. Every other written piece I have seen is a direct or indirect attempt to get the reader to buy into their particular understanding of attraction marketing which is defined by the products they are selling. Not that these definitions are invalid, many are very educational and valuable. However, I don’t want my readers thinking that attraction marketing is a set of tools and products that comes neatly packaged in an affiliate link. It is actually a unique concept which deserves a definition on its own, independent of any particular product or method.

The Originator of Attraction Marketing

The original and still the best introduction to Attraction Marketing ever produced in my opinion is Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring Book. The value in that book spans industries, even though it’s targeted to Network Marketing. The book does lead to an offer for other services and tools (as is inherent in all attraction marketing), but it teaches the core of Attraction Marketing as it applies to the individual. It explains what is necessary to make yourself attractive to other people so that they would want to join “you”, not your company or product. Magnetic Sponsoring could really be considered the bible of personal attraction marketing. It explains not just the concept, but how to transform oneself into a person whom other people will follow.

Is there an Objective Definition?

Now let’s look at the definition on Wikipedia, which is the only attraction marketing definition I found that did not have an overt agenda to sell something (yes, we are all selling something, but my goal in this writing is to provide an objective education on the concept). It’s worth looking at the definition of traditional marketing, advertising and branding first. In brief, Marketing is a process of identifying customer needs and delivering a solution for those needs. Advertising is a form of communication used to persuade an audience to take a particular action. Branding is repetitive advertising to associate a certain product or company with certain qualities in the mind of the consumer. These are actually all the components of Attraction Marketing, and have been widely used since the late 19th century with the advent of mass production. Attraction Marketing is a specific and distinctive concept which is built upon these components.

As defined on Wikipedia: “Attraction Marketing is the use of marketing techniques specifically designed to teach the customer what you are doing and how a service or product will benefit them well before they purchase it. Reverse Marketing is the same concept of Attraction Marketing. Reverse marketing is the concept of making the customer seek the firm rather than marketers seeking the customer. Reverse marketing works mainly on the basis of the Law of Attraction. While marketing mainly deals with finding the right set of customers and targeting them, Reverse marketing deals with strategies that would make the customer find the company offering the product.”

How Attraction Marketing Came to Be

Which brings us to Network Marketing, the industry some feel is responsible for coining the term Attraction Marketing. Traditionally, Network Marketing has been a “seek and sell” activity where representatives actively approach people in their personal networks and cold prospects to make a pitch, without any significant pre-qualification of the prospect’s interest in their product or opportunity. While not an efficient strategy, it has proven effective ever since Amway made network marketing popular some forty years ago. It was largely based on the credibility people have with their personal networks, similar to recommending a movie or restaurant, a personal referral has always been an effective way of getting new customers. However this type of promotion has many negative consequences on your personal relationships, which is a topic for another day. As Dale Carnegie said best, it’s like “fishing with strawberries and cream”.

Attraction Marketing evolved out of two phenomenon.

#1 – The pain and frustration of home-based business business owners, and

#2 – The growth of internet marketing.

In a way, Attraction Marketing is what you get when you combine affiliate marketing online, which has been established for some 15 years now, and Network Marketing. Lead Generation Online has been a welcome opportunity in Network Marketing to address the main pitfall of the industry, which is the lack of leads. Your personal network only goes so far, and then it’s on to cold calling, an activity that can take the wind out of your sails real fast. That’s where attrition starts to become a problem because no matter what any Network Marketing company promises, you can never stop prospecting and bringing new customers and reps into your organization if you want to thrive long-term.

Attraction Marketing is now being used in all types of marketing online. Any company that’s engaged in blogging and social media, is really practicing some elements of it already, even if they don’t realize it.

So the million dollar question that drives nearly every definition of attraction marketing you will find on the internet is:

My answer, is that it depends. It depends your goals, skills and preferences. Attraction Marketing is not limited to the internet, or any specific set of strategies or systems. To understand how it can be accomplished, just ponder all the ways a business can advertise. Because Attraction Marketing, if you want to boil it down, is simply taking the marketing, advertising and branding strategies long understood in the corporate world, and applying them for yourself in network marketing. The internet has now opened up this ability for anyone with a basic understanding of internet marketing. There are very low cost and effective methods online to market and brand yourself. And if you do not know the first thing about internet marketing, there are an abundance of tools and resources to let you get started in a relatively short period of time. In fact, too many some would say. That is one of the main challenges faced by anyone doing attraction marketing today.

Online it’s all about getting traffic to wherever it is you want them to go in order to see your content. It could be a blog, a capture page, squeeze page, or even a Facebook page.

Brief summary of online Attraction Marketing Strategies

Online Attraction MarketingThis is just to give you a basic awareness of what’s out there, by no means is this exhaustive or will this teach you how to execute these strategies. That is what my blog posts, Insider Secrets Page and the systems I promote are all about.

  1. Blogging – Develop and Maintain a personal website by regularly posting valuable articles and content that will engage and ultimately help your readers to build their business. This is part of a content based strategy, which many concur is the best long-term way to make yourself valuable to your audience.
  2. Pay Per Click – This is a paid advertising strategy, although much more affordable than most forms of advertising and shown to be highly effective in the network marketing industry. This is all about copywriting and keyword research, which are relatively advanced skills to develop. So often you will find more experienced internet marketers using pay per click.
  3. Social Media – Facebook, Twitter and other similar sites have become one the most powerful forces in consumer markets. There are many courses available all about building your social media networks and how to turn those connections into customers or business partners.
  4. Article Marketing – Can be used to drive traffic to a blog or directly to a sales page or capture page. If you like to write, or can pay others to do it for you, submitting your articles to directories can be a great way to get backlinks to get traffic and help your search engine rankings.
  5. Video Marketing – like article marketing but with videos. With youtube and many other video directories, you can create valuable backlinks. Plus, videos have become one of the most compelling ways to engage website visitors
  6. SEO – This all about making whatever web page you are promoting show up at the top of search engine results for certain search terms. All the strategies above are part of SEO strategies.
  7. Online Classified Ads, Ezines and Solo Ads – additional ways you can advertise online, each of these is a strategy unto itself, and again advertising is all about copywriting and keyword research
  8. Email Marketing – this is perhaps the narrow end of the funnel where all other strategies lead. The ultimate goal is to build a list of targeted email subscribers, where you can automatically deliver valuable content , and links to your products, services and opportunities.

A couple offline strategies which are still used and highly effective:

  1. Postcard Campaigns – this requires an advertising budget, and copywriting skills as well. There are courses available on Postcard Marketing
  2. Automated Dialers – investment required for this as well. Essentially these systems will pull phone numbers off the internet from sites in your target market, i.e. network marketing blogs, and leave them a voicemail. When people return the call you are notified and have yourself a qualified lead.

The Funded Proposal Or Self-Liquidating Offer

A core concept of attraction marketing is the funded proposal. Essentially, it’s a low cost product that will deliver high value to the targeted customer. This will establish this person as high value lead, and allow you to generate revenue that pays for your attraction marketing campaigns. You gain traffic with the strategies above and funnel that traffic to your funded proposal product. After a customer buys your funded proposal, it is then recommended to have a more significant retail product, an attraction marketing system typically, that will create more significant revenues. At this point you have established a strong relationship with the prospect and they are likely to be interested in your primary opportunity, which is your network marketing business. The overriding goal is to have prospects want to join your team, however you can still produce a significant source of income from prospects that never join your team.

Network marketing has always afforded great opportunities with very low upfront investments. But the industry has been plagued by inherent limitations of using your personal network as your customer and distributor base. Internet Marketing, it’s a glitzy glamorous industry filled with rainbows, pots of gold and the solutions to all of life’s problems. Ahh… if only it were that simple. Let’s take a look at the world of copywriting, and how to engage your audience without making empty promises.

Online Ads Must Be Captivating, But Based In Reality

Ok so let’s look at two example ads, and you decide which one is more captivating.

“Free Video Reveals The #1 Secret To Making Money Online In 30 Days”

or

“Free Video Explains All The Tasks And Self-Development You Need To Do To Make Money On The Internet”

Now, both of these statements speak to a reality, based on my own experience. However, even though the second statement is true, very few people are going to be captivated by that kind of language. It sounds like work, and it sounds boring and there is nothing in that statement that gets people motivated.

Yet it still amazes me every time when somebody sees an ad like the first sentence, and then when they find out there is actual hard work involved they are disappointed. Kind of like someone staying at a Holiday Inn and getting upset that they did not actually become a genius ;)

Your job as a marketer, is to engage people on an emotional level, to help them believe in themselves, to visualize the life they are dreaming about, as a very possible reality if they click on your ad. The Difference Between Captivating And Misleading Advertisements

There is an element of what we like to call “hype” in marketing. But I really do not like that word, because hype implies that what the ad is saying is false. And in most cases, not all, but most cases, the ad is based on a glorified reality,  not saying something this is false. Hype is a very subjective concept. One might contest that Air Jordans are pure hype, while another may credit their Air Jordans for winning a Gus Macker tournament. What we’ve done here is defined how marketing works. Here’s another example:

“BMW, the ultimate driving machine.”

Or

“BMW, a high performance luxury car that costs more to maintain and insure than 99% of the cars on the road.”

Again, both of these speak to realities. Of course no one would ever buy a BMW if they advertised what some consider as the reality of owning one in statement two.  Ads are not disclosures, and I think that some people expect to actually have a red button to push when they hear easy button. Even Staples is not actually an easy button right? It’s just a message that implies easy in relation to something else.

Now however, if the ad said:

“BMW, High Performance, Low Maintenance.”  I will consider this misleading. I don’t know anyone that would consider any German car to be low maintenance. While this statement could possibly be true in relation to Mercedes, as an advertisement it is misleading.

Captivate With Something You Can Deliver

Easy is a relative term, but the main problem with telling newbies that anything in internet marketing is easy, is that it attracts lazy people who are searching for some way to gain without having to put in the work or provide value.

If you read my content and ads, I am always conscious of not making a strategy or tool seem like you can actually be lazy and not have to provide value to get the result. Even though some of the programs I promote do use the “easy button” phrase, I am always sure to provide explanation in my own marketing of what that means.

Trust me, it’s much harder to deal with people who got on your list because they thought you had some kind of magic potion, than it is to work with people who liked your message and understand that it takes personal investment to see the results of whatever your ad is promoting.

I do suggest and encourage you to learn the skills of copy writing. Words are powerful and will make you a lot of money on the internet if used correctly. But don’t mislead. That will get you no where.

And when reading advertising, always understand that nobody has anything for you, that involves a windfall of money, without an equal amount of investment on your part. That means learning and applying what the program teaches with discipline, and with a winning attitude. Even if you actually apply the training or system being adverstised, but have some kind of entitlement attitude that somebody owes you something and it better work or it’s some kind of scam, no advertisment will ever come true for you.

The surest sign to know whether someone has this mis-guided expectation from any adverstised product, is when they say, “I tried it and it doesn’t work”.  In most cases it’s working for other people, so that indicates you read the copy and bought into the idea of easy money, and were not looking for a program that will allow you to give more value to people.

Just forget that. There is no such thing as easy money, at least not in the sense of getting something for nothing. The laws of economics have never changed. Now, when people who understand the laws apply certain products and systems, it seems easy because they actually enjoy the process of becoming more valuable to people, but that requires learning new skills.

So in terms of copy writing, it’s only hype if something that is being presented is not true, period. When writing your ads, emails and content on your website – always remember to glorify, engage… and peak interest with powerful words that speak to a truth.

The actual webinar is well done, with a nice balance of teaching, selling and validating. It is quite long, I started recording it about 20 minutes in, and still ended up with almost two hours of recorded material. All offers are being sold via Clickbank. While there are good and bad effects of using clickbank as a marketer, it’s mostly good for a buyer because it automatically gives you a 60 day money back guarantee.

The $1 trial offer is very smart in my opinion, especially using that for a well-known charitable cause that helps to build schools in developing countries like Kenya. What that does is pre-qualify the buyer even though it’s only one dollar. Now your credit card is on file and you are all set to buy the monthly continuity program if you decide that after 30 days what are you learning is worth the $97 monthly membership fee.

So the Dot Com Secrets offer does have three upsells as well. I ended up buying 2 of them. We’ll get more into those in future updates but they all looked really good and at very reasonable prices ranging from $197 to $297. The ones I purchased are a ready-made training program so you can hire out-sourcers to work your marketing, this is a killer idea and may be worth thousands if it delivers the goods.  You will reach a point, if you want to earn six and even seven figures online, where outsourcing becomes paramount if you want to have any kind of life, and that’s why we are doing this in the first place right?

But like any economic boon, it soon attracts all the wannabe “rockstars” out of the woodwork. I guess you could call me one of them ;) And don’t get me wrong, many of these products are great and valuable. But after experiencing some of my own success online, I noticed something with most products that was a disturbing trend.

Your Attraction Marketing Training Feedback Is Missing

When I started to develop my own Attraction Marketing Training Product, a critical question occurred to me. How many of these training product creators ever stopped to ask what it is that their customer base actually needs?

I know of a couple who have, and I applaud them. But still way too many others have cranked out product after product without any real pre-market research. Two Main Categories of Attraction Marketing Training

You see there are no shortage of two categories of training on the web right now.

1. Free Training – there are more people giving away more free training the web than ever before. The problem with something people get for free is that there is absolutely no accountability for value. It’s free. Attraction Marketing at its core is about giving away value to attract customers who end up actually paying you at some point, otherwise it would be called Charity Marketing :) .  The world of free is a tricky place. And it leads to the #1 problem on the internet today… Lack of Focus and Overwhelm.

2. Premium Paid Training
Many of these programs are incredibly helpful and worth more than a college degree in most cases. However, most of them start at around $600 per year and on up to one time fees in the several thousands. Out of reach for many people. Then even when you buy a course, you realize you still need about $2,000 more stuff to actually implement the plan.. Which is fine and fair, but it seems to me there is a big Gap in the marketplace between these two types of training.

It is possible to build your business on budget. And that is the focus of my new product, which of course will be affordable or it would be an oxymoron. But to help ensure that I pack the most value possible that will allow my customers to use it achieve real success online…

Here’s my formula for recognizing and blasting through through motivational walls… in the Attraction Marketing space, which I’m expecting will materialize as I write. (I’ll explain my little behavioral experiment by the end of this post.)

Why Motivational Walls Happen With Attraction Marketing In The First Place

For most aspiring attraction marketing students, it is a struggle in the early weeks and months. So it’s easy to understand why motivation may run out… it’s simple math. You’ve put $1,000 into your business, for example, and maybe you have not even earned half of it back, or maybe you’re still looking for your first dollar three months in.

Many give up before they have given things a realistic shot. And realistic could be anything from 6 months to 2 years in my experience.  Hopping online and expecting a full time income within a couple months or even weeks is laughable in most cases, although not impossible. Everyone is in differenct situations with different skill sets and commitment levels. So your number will be unique to you.

I hear even seven figure earners online talk about motivational walls, so don’t feel like there is anything wrong with you.

The Top 10 Reasons For Hitting Motivational Walls In Attraction Marketing

  1. Not seeing money fast enough
  2. Technical overwhelm (how many of you wanted to quit the first time you accidentally deleted a blog post you worked on for 5 hours?)

  6. Make goals, achieving realistic goals is very motivational, it could be to write 5 articles in a week, for example
  7. Pick a core skill in your training to work on, seriously make yourself better at it
  8. Listen to great industry and non-industry motivational speakers
  9. Do something you know you’re good at, and you enjoy, whether business related or not
  10. Write an article about breaking through motivational walls :-)

Action Takes Down Motivational Walls In Attraction Marketing

If I had to sum this up, I would say… just do something! Even that something is taking a step back for a while. Sometimes you get so wrapped in working on multiple projects you don’t realize that they are not moving forward as a whole, and a re-prioritization is in order.

My main point with #10 is to just make yourself aware of your lack of motivation. And then ask yourself why? Some times you may need to dig deep. Self-worth issues are often the root cause. In fact, I admit to having these kinds of battles myself. So much evidence surrounds me of success, including substantial income flow… and yet I still hit these walls.

The critical issue is not that you have hit a wall in your attraction marketing or home business, it is how you respond to it. Like a stock market index, it will be up, it will down, but the long-term trend with your attraction marketing efforts and results is what we are really concerned with.

WAZZUB Hype Machine Is Impressive, But Will It Work?

wazzubWAZZUB! As if there was any better way to open this review. WAZZUB may be a joke, it may be hype, and it may be a pie in the sky much ado about nothing. But one thing is for sure, it has gone viral, and gotten the attention of Google, Facebook, Twitter and about 3 Million other people around the world. You can check it out HERE.

WAZZUB Is Being Compared to Google, Yahoo and Facebook

Now, just because WAZZUB is being compared to the top search engines and social media websites, does not mean it belongs anywhere near the same conversation. But, marketing hype can do powerful things, and the reality is that a couple million people have already signed up for a free account.

So what the heck is WAZZUB? Well, nobody really knows… that is the fascinating part. The cheesy, amateurish marketing that pervades the web about this start up has done an undeniably good job of spreading the word. Which provides an interesting marketing case study in itself.

The best we can tell, is that WAZZUB is hoping to be the central home page for the internet, where people can easily access their search engine, social media, news and tailored advertising. Sounds very similar to what Google and Yahoo provide already, right?

The Wazzub Profit Sharing Phenomenon

Well, the twist is what they are calling a profit sharing phenomenon. The plan with Wazzub is to allow all pre-launch members to earn money off of advertisers on the website. I will admit, I love this concept. The big question will be how much money can people really make, if there are millions of prelaunch members? Well That all depends on the longevity of the platform and how much advertising revenue is generated.

The potential is there. Just ask Facebook or Google. The one factor that makes me a bit iffy on the whole thing is, will people continue to flock to a website that they know a bunch of members are making money off of ? And will it actually be as useful as the designers are promising?

One thing is for sure, it will be a work in progress. They claim a couple million dollars in research has gone into this, but these kinds of aspirations will require loads of tweaking no doubt.

WAZZUB Is Going Viral, Like It OR Not

The reality for Wazzub is that it has gone viral, and continues to gain momentum. So perhaps it will be a big dud, or a fantastic explosion. Beta launch is slated for April 9, 2012. So it can’t hurt to sign up, since it’s absolutely free, and then refer a few friends to see what happens.

One last point is that many folks have sneered about the choice of name here. But how soon people seem to forget how much ridicule Google used to get for their name. I remember how people used to giggle when they said it. Now it’s literally a verb that has been accepted into mainstream society all over the world. Whenever you want to look something up… all you need to do is Google it! I’m not sure it rolls off the tongue as nicely, admittedly. But I can see people in the future saying just Wazzub it!

Hard Drive Backup Is Tough Lesson In Online Marketing

hard drive back upSo how many of you think Hard drive backup is not a critical issue for your online marketing business? Ok, let me re-phrase that, how many of you are actually backing up your hard drive on a daily basis? Well, let my stupidity save you some money, time and major stress.

Hard Drive Backup Lesson #1

Unfortunately, this is my second bad experience with not backing up my hard drive on my primary machine that runs my businesses. The first time was about six months ago, when my computer “inadvertently” was slammed shut during a moment of frustration (hey, I don’t claim to be perfect but honestly I didn’t mean to slam it that hard. Anyone who’s tried to edit their own videos likely knows this kind of frustration!)

So I took the computer in to Best Buy and got the bad news. Hard drive is shot, prey that we can get the data off. $400 later, I had most of my data back and a brand new hard drive. Plus, an external drive so I can back up my laptop and avoid this unfortunate situation in the future… or at least that was the theory.

The first time there was no dramatic affect on my business, but it did set me back about 3 days of reinstalling everything and retrieving files. 3 precious days especially when you’re just starting out trying to build your home business online… every day counts.

Backup Hard Drive Lesson #2

What is it they say is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting different results? Well, I did do some back ups but soon it became a thought in the distance instead of an actual practice. When your juggling multiple businesses and a family, it’s easy to mistake backing up your hard drive for one of those tedious tasks you’ll get to later.

Well after my computer took a couple beatings from falling off a chair and table, it started to make a buzz noise, then bam… blue screen. One thing you do not want to see on your computer out of nowhere is a blue screen.

I still was not panicked because I knew I had been through this before. And while I expected to be out a few more hundred bucks, I didn’t expect to lose my data. Well you know what happens when you assume.

I got the call today, and guess what? The data recovery server says my data is inaccessible. That means my only other option is to have it sent in to a highly specialized data recovery company and it means big bucks. The only thing that really will make me pay that money is the fact there may be some family videos on the drive, but I’ve yet to confirm that. Either way, not good.

Hard Drive Backup is Critical For Serious Home Business Entrepreneurs

Now I consider myself a serious home business entrepreneur, but organization and tedious tasks are not my strong point. Well, guess what… backing up my hard drive is going to become a strong point real fast. I may invest into an automatic service, since I know the likelihood of sticking to a religious regimen of back ups is not likely with me. At this point it’s more than worth it and you can get most services for less than $10 a month for big storage capacity.

This time the damage was bit more painful. I was in the middle of a video project with several hours of work into it, gone. All my passwords for over 50 accounts, several of them are backed up, but several were not. One of the most painful things is losing my PST file for Outlook. I have thousands of emails stored in there that was kind of like a CRM program for me. Now it’s only a couple months worth that are missing since I backed up, but still, that is not cool to lose 2 months worth of emails. There’s a chance I can still get some of the data back, but it will cost me.

Bottom-line… please back up your hard drives. And back up your websites as well. WordPress plugins will make back ups for you, but I still highly recommend making hard copy back ups periodically of your website. This does not affect my site, but just imagine a big crash at your web host… it can, and has happened. People have lost tons of content in an instant. So again… please just back that sh*t up! :) It is a small price to avoid major losses for your business, and as you grow it will become even more critical do a hard drive back up daily.
